Team history:
Established in 2006. The team formerly known as Racealliance was renamed into Jetalliance Racing for the 2007 season.
Team highlights:
Karl Wendlinger and Ryan Sharp finished runners-up in the FIA GT Championship, just missing the title but securing the most wins and pole positions - three each. Karl Wendlinger was also awarded the Racing Driver of the Year 2007 by the OSK committee, Austria’s motor racing governing body.
Plans for 2008:
In 2008, Jetalliance Racing will again compete in the FIA GT Championship with two Aston Martin DBR9. A total of ten races are on the schedule of this championship, with the season opener set for April 20th at Silverstone.
“We just missed out on the overall victory last year. Mindful of the fact that we are still a very young team, we can be more than satisfied with what we have achieved so far. We have but one objective for 2008 – we want to win the championship. That’s why we tried to keep the good things from last year during the off-season and then put the finishing touches to this very solid foundation stone. And the test days we did have shown that we are on the right track. Apart from our big goal, we also want to be up front in the team classification – and I expect the second car to finish on the podium at least once”, Lukas Lichtner-Hoyer declares.
The “flagship”, the Jetalliance Aston Martin number 33, remains unchanged with regard to last year’s team of drivers. The pairing of Karl Wendlinger and Ryan Sharp has proven to be a very harmonious and, above all, quick one in 2007. The former Formula 1 driver had a great season, claiming three pole positions and, together with the Scot, as many wins. Not only has he been voted the FIA GT’s “Driver of the Year” because of his performance, but also the 2007 Racing Driver of the Year by Austria’s motor racing governing body.
These awards not only pleased the Austrian very much, they also encouraged him even further: “We are a very well-established team now and have an absolute top-level engineering director in Othmar Welti. I’m very optimistic that we will be among the front runners once again this year.”
A total of three tests were completed in preparation of the new season. Very positive insights were gained, both at Paul Ricard and at Monza, as well as most recently at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz. Karl Wendlinger: “We were able to work out a lot of things, specifically in the area of anti-roll bars and springs. This makes me particularly happy, because this kind of fine tuning is the foundation for success.”
Jetalliance Racing takes a big step forward in the customer sports scene this year, running a total of four Aston Martin N24 in the GT4 class.
The “GT4 European Cup” is supporting the FIA GT, with a total of six races on the schedule. Vitus Eckert from Baden and Klaus Engelhorn from Vienna will contest the entire championship.
Lukas Lichtner-Hoyer: “Like our products in the business jet range, the customer sports programme too will soar in the market, because we offer the best support on the highest level to our customers. This, above all, includes professional data analysis enhancing individual performance and the attractive hospitality. Of course, our pros are also available for any questions.”
